Popscene @ 330 Ritch April 3, 2003 Review by Jake Thomas I have only been to Popscene once before, and it was ages ago for a Creeper Lagoon CD release. This time around, it was the CD release for local heroes The Stratford 4. I saw these lads and lassies once before at Noise Pop (in 2002 I believe?) opening for Pedro the Lion at Slim's. That was one of my favorite nights of music that year, and I really enjoyed them in particular. This time was no different - good show, despite some slightly muddy vocals; but that might have just been the acoustics. They played a short set, 5 or 6 songs I would say. Since I don't have any of their records, I would assume it was mostly new stuff; for some reason, even though I like everything I've heard by them, I somehow always forget to pick up their cds. Hopefully someday I'll just stop being so stupid and buy the damn thing, cause I'm sure I would like it. A fair number of people were dancing around me, others just watching. Lots of attractive people on the scene, but plenty of funny looking ones too. Plenty of fashionable sorts in funny outfits they may have just purchased at Wasteland, so many people wearing ties that I felt like I was at a board meeting, and lots of fancy shoes. Bad outfits or not, the entire crowd appeared fairly receptive to The S4, and hopefully they'll play another local show again soon. --- Check out our previous Stratford 4 experiences: Review: April 25th, 2001 @ Edinburgh Castle w/Planets West Review: Pseudocandy: Chris & Jake take part in a Jesus and Mary Chain tribute jam night August 29, 2001, Modular Lab @ the Edinburgh Castle ©2003 playinginfog.com |
