Review by Squid

The wonder of Sparklehorse isn't lost on us. Good Morning Spider has been the soundtrack to many a quiet, hungover Sunday here at the Playing In Fog offices. That Mark Linkous was able to recreate his songs live was accomplishment enough. That he managed to reproduce the narcotic haze and sentiment of that album was, frankly, almost too much to bear. There were some unexpected treats, what with a cover of Guided By Voices' 'Smothered in Hugs' and a cameo by Jason Lytle who provided back up vocals on the closing number, Homecoming Queen. Beautiful.

Built Like Alaska came down from the farm and wowed the city folk with a set of layered lovin' as we've come to expect from them. This is the second high profile show they've been asked to open for, and they played to an close to full house. Pretty damn impressive for an band with no label, eh? That's what we thought you'd say.
