Rogue Wave
Café Du Nord

Review by Jake Thomas

This was the first ‘headlining’ show for what is currently my favorite local band (and one of my favorites period),
Rogue Wave. It allowed them to play a little longer than you usually get to see them, and that is a good thing as far as I’m concerned. On a local internet message board that I frequent, Gram (one of the members of Rogue Wave) expressed concern that anyone was going to show up, since they had always played a supporting role and not really had the responsibility of drawing the crowd themselves. Those concerns quickly flew out the door when I, along with two of my good friends, walked in and saw a pretty crowded Café Du Nord. I saw Gram walking around in his cowboy hat and a grin as big as the Cheshire cat, so I knew things were going to be good. The show was great – Zach’s voice sounded amazing as usual, everyone was playing well and seemed to be really into it, and the crowd was reacting accordingly. Gram looked like he was about to explode with happiness, and at one point while playing his keyboards, had his butt up in the air wiggling it like a happy puppy. Both of my friends that came with me were totally in love with the bassist, Sonya (and for good reason, but you didn’t hear that from me, I’m taken). They played a lot of new songs, as well as almost all of their ‘Out of the Shadows’ album, one of the best records of the year. A great first headlining show for what I hope will be a long and well-received tenure of making great pop music.
