Review by Jake Thomas

I’ve been pretty enamored with this band for a couple of years now…I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to their album “Don’t Fall in Love with Everyone You See”, but it’s probably a pretty big damn number. Their newest record “Black Sheep Boy” is my current leader for best record of the year, it is damn brilliant. With this much awesomeness floating around, it seems only natural that their live show would be one of the best things I’ve seen in a long time. Even as an opening band, there seemed to be a surprising number of folks that were especially there for them like I was. It took them a while to get set up – apparently they had been driving 12+ hours to get there and had just arrived – but once they got all the kinks worked out their set was nothing short of brilliant. Lots of tracks from the new album like “For Real” and “The Latest Toughs” (which is my favorite song right now, very Elvis Costello-ish), and classics like “Red” and closed the set with a big sing-a-long on “Okkervil River Song”. Just thinking about how great it was makes me smile right now as I type this…
