Household Names
Thee Parkside

Review by Jake Thomas

Sometimes you want to go to a show just because you need to get out, even if just for a little while. There was this shindig going down at Thee Parkside called the International Pop Overthrow, and I decided to stop by early and check out the second band on that night’s bill, the Household Names (the only thing I like better than seeing shows are seeing early shows). Although they didn’t play for terribly long, the result of being a part of a 7 band line-up, they sounded pretty good. Obviously, they were a pop band, as the name of the event might lead you to believe…in the vein of Teenage Fanclub, Sloan, Red Kross and even a little Trip Shakespeare if I had to lay down exactly what they sounded like. Pretty damn catchy, lots of harmonies – I think every person in the four-member line-up was singing at one point or another. They closed out their brief set with what turned out to be a cover of U2’s very first single “Out of Control”, a damn fine song and cover to boot.
