Great American Music Hall August 31, 2001 Photos Oh, eX-Girl! We love you and the way you set up your own gear in your matching silver raincoats! We love that you stash your bubblegum colored pedals in a girl's overnight suitcase! And that one of your entourage seemed to have the specific task of stuffed frog placement! Don't even get us started on the pink gaffers tape! Or the way you reappeared in full neon bubble headdress regalia and shimmy straight through the crowd at GAMH brandishing magic wands! You're silly but serious, the sound is glossily tight, and you've got a post-Shonen savvy that commands the respect of everyone present. Sure, we would've liked to hear a different set list from the last time, but the Bulgarian Women's Choir inspired acapella number held the crowd in awe. Adorable headbanging in babydoll rainslicker Keroppi dresses! No wonder Ruins love you! Squid hadn't gotten a chance to see Thinking Fellers since that Sun City Girls/Caroliner Rainbow show at the GAMH about 10 years ago. Performances are rare, what with their drummer living in Boston and all, so we were pretty thrilled at a chance to see them. Our local heroes took Art Rock to a dense space where thundering bass, plucked banjos, and woozy keyboards coexisted perfectly thanks to their manic time changes. A big audience sing-along at the close Cup of Dreams was proof that they'll always have a homebase of loyal fans. Thinking Fellers Local Union #282: the Kings of Intricate Anarchy.
