Review by Squid

According to their label's website, the line-up of The Dirtbombs can be seen as opposite to those bassless soulbeat wonders, The Gories. Kinda weird when you consider that many of the people at this show were huge Gories fans. It's true, The Dirtbombs up the ante by having two bass players and two drummers. It was a night of bottom-heavy Detroit rumbling, to say the least. Squid could barely keep those four Jack'n'Cokes in their little glasses for all the go-go madness surrounding her. Kind of an interesting mixed crowd too. "Oh my God!", yelled E.Deb, "that (looks like a mom, sweetly smiling, matching QVC denim outfit wearing) woman just shimmied up against me! That just made my night! She's RAD!"

The Bellrays held the crowd in check with their energetic blues rock, thanks in no small part to their lead singer Lisa Kekaula's growling shout. They have the distinction of being the only band that Vic, one of the BotH's finest has actually complimented outright. "She sounds like Tina Turner", he said with an affirmative nod. No small words coming from a man who sees about twenty bands a week...
