Bottom of the Hill May 9, 2001 Review by Squid It’s so cliché, we almost don’t want to tell you. Bangs are an pop punk trio that hail from Oly, Washington and are on the Kill Rock Stars Label. That said, they were actually really well put together and fun to watch. Lead singer Sarah Utter had a good singing shout that carried many of their songs. Speaking of BK, Squid kept telling Daz, "That bass player, she reminds me SO much of Toby Vail! She looks like her, maybe even stands like her..?" Duh, that because she's Maggie Vail, ie. Toby's little sister. Ms. Vail took lead vocals for a fun cover of Cheap Trick's 'Southern Girls' and impressed us quite a bit. We both thought new drummer Kyle Ermatinger had an awesome ferocity that really gave them punk cred. Not that they'd really care. The Bangs are a happy, well-adjusted pop punkers that just wanna play their music, the louder the better. |
